If whisky was a song, what would yours be like – jazz, rock or classical music? Exclusive for Global Travel Retail, The Macallan introduces Concept Number 2, the second release in the Concept Series. Steven Bremner, who is not only a Whisky Maker for The Macallan but also an avid house music DJ, creatively combines his two passions – whisky and music – in the creation. Such unique expression perhaps promotes this limited edition to the next “It” whisky.

Concept Number 2 calls on three casks to perform a symphony – sherry-seasoned American oak casks, for a rhythmic sweetness of vanilla, citrus and toffee; Miguel Martin sherry casks, for an energetic treble of rounded spiciness; as well as exbourbon casks, for harmonies of floral citrus and vanilla.

In case you have not heard from Steven, there are very similar thought processes involved in getting to the end goal with both music and whisky. The layering of sounds resembles the layering of different flavours from specific cask types. Each different cask has its own crescendo effect on the character of the liquid, like each instrument or sound adds depth to a track. Be it music making or whisky production, each different element is freely altered to play up or down particular sounds or flavours.
